about the design:
The main inspiration behind this design comes from the imagery of fractals. The idea was to visualize the cracking of a mirror, but in a more ‘controlled’ or symmetrical manner to create something like a portal opening into a new reality. I often ponder upon the idea of us living inside our individual boxes, each box comprising of everything we think we know, with crystal clear mirrors for walls.
And the only way we become aware of the existence of these walls is by bumping our heads into it. My constant struggle to question everything that I think I know and my urges to break my mirrors have inspired me to create this artwork. The patterns inside the individual cracks are inspired by the spiral motifs seen in tattoos from Borneo. The use of negative space in these tattoos have always drawn me towards them.
