about the design:
The ‘sacred serpent implant’ is a result of my exploration of the intersection between ancient wisdom and futuristic technologies of prosthetics.
The central element of this design are the two intertwinding serpents, uncoiling at the base of the design and ascending to meet again at the top. This imagery is a symbolic representation of the concept of ‘kundalini’ which, according to Hinduism, is the divine, feminine energy of the cosmos. The term ‘kundalini’ comes from the Sanskrit word ‘kundala’, which means ‘coiled’, and is often depicted as a coiled serpent at the base of the spine, in the Muladhara chakra. The process of kundalini awakening involves the gradual ascent of this dormant energy along the spine, through the central energy channel known as shushumna. As this energy rises, it passes through each of the seven main chakras, leading to a profound spiritual awakening and expansion of consciousness. The divine feminine energy, shakti uncoils at the muladhara and ascends upwards to reach the sahasrara chakra where it unifies with the divine masculine energy, shiv. Upon union of shiv and shakti, the practitioner is said to experience ‘enlightenment’.
The concept of this design is also heavily influenced by the use of prosthetic implants to enhance the abilities of the human body and even transcend its biological limitations through bio-hacking and augmentation. Recent advancement in technologies like neural implants have inspired me to create this design in a way that challenges the concepts of our identity of being ‘humans’.
This design is my imagination of such an advanced spinal implant that can trigger the activation of the latent kundalini energy. I hope this design serves as a reminder of the infinite wisdom that lies within us, waiting to be discovered and embraced. May this design inspire us to follow a path of self-discovery and help us celebrate our eternal quest for knowledge, wisdom and enlightenment.
The patterns that make up the serpents draw inspiration from the tribal tattoos of Borneo and Polynesian cultures. The patterns on the edge of the design is inspired by the strokes from various ancient scripts like devanagri, Arabic and nastaliq, modified in an attempt to create some kind of alien hieroglyphs, which aren’t mere ornaments but may hold the keys to unlocking ancient truths and cosmic insight
